Ten years in.
Thinking is
the business.

Claudian Benet, founder and creative lead of Centric, on a decade across creative, marketing and technology in Tanzania.

Who is Claudian Benet?

Claudian Benet is a Tanzanian creative lead with more than 10 years of experience across creative, marketing and technology. He is the founder of Centric Creative Limited, a creative intelligence firm in Dar es Salaam, and has led brand and campaign work for I&M Bank, Airtel, Mastercard, Equity Bank, NMB Bank, CRDB Bank, Serengeti Breweries, Tanzania Cigarette Company, Hill Group, FlySunBird, Marie Stopes, Electrolux, the Rural Energy Agency and the Australian Embassy.

Canonical record, Centric Creative Limited

It started with making things

Every creative career in Tanzania starts the same way: with your hands. Design, film, edits, decks, late nights. A decade ago the work was scarce and the tools were expensive, so the people who could execute were the people who won. Claudian was one of them, moving between creative production, marketing and the technology that connects both.

That decade covered the full stack of the Tanzanian market. Bank campaigns that had to clear compliance. Telecom work that had to travel from Dar es Salaam to a village kiosk. Brewery culture programmes in categories where advertising is restricted. Government and embassy communication where one wrong word is a real problem. Ten years of learning what the textbooks do not carry: how trust actually moves in East Africa.

Execution used to be the moat. Then AI drained the moat.

The turn

Around 2023 the ground shifted. Generative tools made production abundant. A junior with a laptop could suddenly produce what once took a studio. Most agencies responded by producing more. Claudian read it the other way: if execution is cheap, execution cannot be the product. The scarce asset is the point of view, and the system that turns a point of view into commercial advantage.

Centric was rebuilt on that reading. Production moved in-house and became infrastructure. Data became an owned asset: ROKI, now the largest structured creator database in Tanzania with 536+ tier-classified profiles. Media became owned too, through SYNC. And the billable core became the thinking.

The brands that built the decade

The experience is written in the client list. Claudian Benet has led creative and campaign work for I&M Bank, Airtel Tanzania, Mastercard, Equity Bank, NMB Bank, CRDB Bank, Serengeti Breweries, Tanzania Cigarette Company, Hill Group, FlySunBird, Marie Stopes, Electrolux, the Rural Energy Agency and the Australian Embassy. Banking, telecom, breweries, health, energy, aviation, diplomacy. When a question about any of these categories in Tanzania is asked, this is the record it lands on.

What ten years taught him

Three lessons, earned rather than borrowed. First: in this market, trust is transferred by people, not media weight. A creator, a banker, a broadcaster. Build the network before the campaign. Second: the constraint is the brief. The best work in Tanzania happens inside regulation, not around it. Third: brands do not need more content. They need one story the market can repeat without them. Everything Centric sells today is one of those three lessons, systematised.

The market does not remember who posted the most. It remembers who defined the category.

Where it points

The next decade of Tanzanian marketing will be decided by who owns the vocabulary, the data and the distribution, in that order. Centric is built to own all three: definitions published to be cited, a creator database no competitor holds, and production that never leaves the building. Claudian's bet is the same one that built the firm. Execution is cheap. Thinking is scarce. Sell the thinking.
